The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a certified Veterinary Technician in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC! ). The LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents and interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art care to animal patients.
The technician will be actively involved with assisting veterinary students and clinicians in providing technical care and assistance to pre and post-operative small animal anesthesia and surgery patients. Surgical care will include but not be limited to orthopedics, soft tissue, ophthalmology, neurology and primary care services.
Responsibilities under general supervision also include providing and using appropriate anesthetic techniques and principles for patients, providing service with the guidance, supervision, and instruction from the anesthesiologist, assessing animals prior to anesthesia, and demonstrating a complete understanding of the ph! ysiologic and pharmacologic principles of the medications and ! preparations used in the field of anesthesia.
Required Qualifications
State certification as a veterinary technician.
Preferred Qualifications
Employment within a veterinary practice and/or research related facility as a veterinary technician.
Clinical experience especially with anesthesia.
Salary
Entry hourly salary: $16.39
