Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate appropriate for assignment with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learner (ELL), or Bilingual Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; Master's preferred
- Proficiency in Reading, Writing and Speaking in Spanish preferred
- Successful experience working with English learners at a variety of levels
- Understanding of and experience using research-based instructional practices for English learners
- Possess strong theoretical background in working with English learners
- Knowledge of special needs applications to diverse linguistic populations
- Experience working successfully with diverse cultural groups, especially Latino, Slavic, and Pacific Islander families
- Understand cross-cultural and acculturation issues
- Proven ability to function in a team-oriented setting
- Successful supervision experience in working with staff, parent volunteers, and student aides
- Experience as model/master/mentor teacher
- Ability to coordinate a vision and sense of direction for the school English learner program
- Experience and knowledge of high educational standards while working with diverse linguistic populations
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, their parents, and communities who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
- Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool
- Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives
Essential Functions:
- Support teachers and staff of Newcomer learners in a variety of schools, daily travel may be required
- Support teachers and staff of Newcomer learners in a variety of settings and content areas through demonstration teaching, coaching, and professional development
- Support the integration of State Language Proficiency Standards to shelter and scaffold student instruction
- Assist with program design modification, monitoring, and scheduling
- Coordinate curriculum appropriate for Newcomer learners
- Team with principal and staff to coordinate, develop, and implement staff trainings, language development, instruction, and the special education pre-referral process for Newcomer learners
- Ensure Newcomer learner success using valid or research-based educational strategies
- Provide academic and Social emotional instruction to Newcomer learners
- Administer state approved language assessments when necessary
- Work collaboratively with educators across the district and function in a team-oriented setting
- Work with diverse linguistic populations using legal guidelines and parameters
- Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities
- Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
- Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and other with dignity and respect at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

Benefits/Compensation:
- Salary range: $57,409 - $108,208 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). 2023-24 school year salary schedule subject to change based on school board approval. Salary schedules can be accessed here.
- Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement. - Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
