Intern Life Sciences - Multiplex immunoassay (BTS-Analytics) [Netherlands]

Job Description

Are you looking for an internship where you are free to take initiative? Would you like to experience working in one of the biggest multinationals in the pharmaceutical industry? We are looking for a fourth-year HBO or MSc student in the field of life sciences who is searching for a challenging internship in our innovative company!

Your internship project
As an intern you are responsible for the development of a multiplex immunoassay to simultaneously measure six antigens in one of our multivalent vaccines using the Luminex bead technology. Currently, these six different antigens are measured by individual ELISA assays. This is elaborate and time-consuming. Luminex bead technology allows for simultaneous measurement of multiple antigens in one assay. We have shown proof of principle with four antigens; the next step is to develop an assay that can measure all six antigens, and to replace the current ELISAs by this multiplex Luminex assay.

Your responsibilities

  • Performing Luminex bead-coupling and bead-stability studies
  • Characterizing recombinant antibodies for multiplex assay development, incl. Western Blotting and Octet
  • Setting up and showing proof of concept of a multiplex assay for 6 antigens
  • Comparing performance of the multiplex assay to individual ELISA assays
  • Providing a fresh perspective within the department: your opinion matters.

The above-mentioned responsibilities are an indication of what you will be doing after proper onboarding and initial learning and development. This provides you with the opportunity to learn and hereafter perform tasks independently. In consultation with your supervisor, you could take on additional tasks and responsibilities.

Who are you?

  • A fourth-year HBO or MSc student in the field of Life Sciences, Applied Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry or Biomedical Sciences
  • You are familiar with immunoassays, analytical tests and/or biochemical assays, including ELISA
  • You are enthusiastic about working in the lab, with a team
  • You are searching for an internship where you get the freedom to show initiative
  • You are fluent in Dutch or English.
  • You are available for a period of at least 6 months for 5 days a week.

What we offer:

Being an intern at our company means you will work together with a team on healthcare in an international environment. As a student, you will get the opportunity to develop yourself. In addition, we offer:

  • The possibility to gain experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • The chance to show your potential
  • A challenging and dynamic work environment with lots of space to develop yourself
  • Professional guidance by an experienced specialist
  • A placement fee of € 500,- gross per month (based on a 40-hour week)

Welcome in our team!

Are you enthusiastic about this internship? Apply today and become a part of our team!

You will work in the BTS-Analytics team which is part of the Bio Technology Solutions (BTS) department within Animal Health. We have 8 members in our team, two of which are involved in multiplex assay development. Our team mainly provides in-line test support to the Quality Control (QC) sites in Europe. This internship assignment is supported by QC Boxmeer, for which the multiplex assay is being developed.
