Telecom Operator (prn - scheduled as needed)

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Description: Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids is at present recruited Telecom Operator (prn - scheduled as needed) right now, this vacancy will be dwelled in Iowa. This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by being an advocate on the phone and as the first impression for Mercy Medical Center, answering all calls with a friendly, pleas ant, calm voice, asking accurate and concise questions and providing correct answers. Announcement of Emergency Codes via the hospital intercom with a immediate response and calm voice provides direction to the hospital staff, patients and visitors Coordinates patient information requests and assists in moving patients, family and visitors to the appropriate destinations from the 10th Street Concierge Desk. Transfer of calls to the appropriate patient rooms, hospital departments and staff. They work closely with volunteers, at the 10th Street Concierge Desk, by directing the volunteer(s) to assist patients, family and visitors to the correct departments.

No benefits. Scheduled on an as-needed basis (prn). Starting pay rate (no experience) $11.11 per hour.

Job/Position Specific Duties

Answers the hospital main phone line, prioritizes, screens and redirects phone calls

Listens attentively to all callers and provides appropriate, correct info rmation to the caller

Handles multiple phone lines simultaneously, prioritizing transfers, pages and calls on hold

Responds immediately in answering the 6111 emergency line

Announces emergency codes clearly and concisely in a calm voice

Monitors, responds appropriately and triages alarm notifications to appropriate department(s)

Monitors and responds appropriately to the security officers radio system

Monitors, as a backup for security the security cameras and notifies Security officers, if necessary

Communicates effectively pertinent information to the next Telecom shift

Monitors maintenance and security, refrigerator temperature alarms

Maintains complete confidentiality of patient information at all times

Knowledgeable about MCSC facilities and departments

Collects, reviews and updates hospital information in the hard copy "telecom reference guide"

Operates the Call Center and performs all functions by department standards

Manages after hours department specific phone lines. ie. After business hours, calls for hospice, security, home health, HPCC, biomed, maintenance, administration, IS, cardiopulmonary

Assists and guides volunteers at the 10th Street Concierge Desk

Prepares and completes additional assigned projects for other departments

Attains effective knowledge and accurate use of computer software, ie. Person on Call, Aeroscout, Meditech, Epic as related to their job role

Runs reports on off shifts for other departments (i.e. HIM, Security, Finance, Anesthesiologists, Hospital Month End)

Performs daily/weekly/monthly backup tapes for Cedar Neurological Surgeons and other requested backup tapes

Coordinates communication from shift to shift regarding any Emergency Codes to appropriate individuals

Communicates directly with accuracy and succinctly to the house su pervisor on off shifts and weekends

Performs data entry for logs, (e.g. van keys, contractor badges, laptops, lost and found)

Directs and Assists patients, family and visitors to correct destinations

Handles packages delivered to the 10th St concierge desk according to appropriate procedures

Completes appropriate shift checklists

Tests, distributes and logs emergency cell phones correctly

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Has a basic knowledge of how to work with multi-line phones and multiple computer software.

Is a customer service professional with a courteous and concise speaking voice who can carry on a conversation, with customers, to obtain positive outcomes from their requests.

Professional Experienceâ€" Required vs. Preferred

Previous customer service knowledge, multiple phone line knowledge preferred.

Basic computer skills required.
