Mō tēnei tūranga - About the role

Reporting into the Community Risk Manager, the Senior Advisor Risk Reduction is accountable for providing risk reduction advice and expertise across the community. The role of Senior Advisor Risk Reduction will include the coaching and mentoring of team members and supporting the Community Risk Manager to plan and deliver the districts risk reduction programme of work.

The Senior Advisor Risk reduction role will be based from the Thames or Hamilton Office, with a requirement to be at our Hamilton office one to two days per week.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting Advisors within the team to build their technical expertise and capability and providing them with opportunities to broaden their experience.
  • Providing risk reduction and compliance advice and support to the community, partners and local regulatory authorities to build understanding and awareness.
  • Undertaking the delivery of a full range of risk reduction, compliance and enforcement activities and functions.
  • Delivering and reporting on risk reduction technical programmes and initiatives and use data information and intelligence to monitor and review risk reduction delivery and compliance activity.

Ko tāu nā ki tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience, or an interest, to work collaboratively with partners and key natural environment stakeholders, have specialist wildfire risk assessment skills relating to wildfire urban interface risk assessmentand oversight of fire permits and fire hazard assessments.

Ideally you will also have experience in the built environment and be comfortable working with and communicating complex and technical information to a range of people from diverse backgrounds.

Your experience coaching and mentoring others will prove valuable in this role, along with your understanding of the principles of risk management. Additionally, you will be a strategic thinker with the ability to negotiate, problem solve and resolve complex situations.
